Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 build 15055 a few minutes ago, and in addition to all the bug fixes and improvements that are part of the release, there is also a change that confirms some of the rumors we’ve heard recently regarding the RTM build.

The new build 15055 is the first one that’s updated to version 1703, which is expected to be none other than the RTM, though the build number is likely to be different.

Version 1703 is a direct reference to the RTM build, as it marks the compiling date: the first two digits represent the year, while the other two stand for the month - in this case, it’s March 2017. In other words, Microsoft kind of confirms that the Windows 10 Creators Update is projected to be finalized as soon as this month, and the update to version 1703 is living proof that we’re almost there.

New builds next week

What’s important to know, however, is that build 15055 is not RTM, though it’s very clear that it’s not very far from it either.

Microsoft is projected to compile the RTM build in the coming weeks, with some sources previously indicating that the target was mid-March.

We’re hearing insiders could get the final RTM build in the week of March 20, in anticipation to the public launch that should take place in April.

A recent report has indicated that Microsoft wants to begin the Windows 10 Creators Update rollout on April 11, though that’s not yet confirmed and still raises some doubts given the fact that Microsoft is releasing next month’s Patch Tuesday security updates during the same day.

Although some things are yet to be confirmed, it’s very clear that Windows 10 Creators Update is taking shape quite nicely and we’re getting super-close to the public launch. New builds for Windows insiders are expected next week, once again with the full focus on fixing bugs and improving performance.
