Microsoft has already confirmed which smartphones are more likely to receive Windows 10 Mobile upgrade once the new operating system gets released.

The list contains almost all Lumia smartphones launched by Microsoft and Nokia, including those that pack only 4GB of storage, even though Windows 10 Mobile has an 8GB internal memory requirement.

But carriers have their own agenda, which sometimes does not match the handset makers' plans. The same goes for the Lumia smartphones that are still available for purchase in the United States at some major carriers.

Fortunately, Microsoft seems to have that covered as well since the Redmond-based company has already released a short list of devices that will eventually receive Windows 10 Mobile updates.

The unlocked version of Lumia 635 has been confirmed too

But first of all, here are the unlocked smartphones available in the US, which have already been confirmed to receive the Windows 10 Mobile update: Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930.

On top of that, Microsoft has just published the list of carrier-branded Lumia smartphones that will be getting the same free update soon after Windows 10 Mobile gets released: AT&T Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL, Verizon Lumia 735, and Sprint Lumia 635.

Carriers around the world probably have their own list of smartphones that they plan to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, so those living in other regions will have to wait until the network operators they use confirm the update for their devices.

Bottom line is Microsoft is unlikely to leave any Lumia smartphones stuck on an older version of Windows Phone once they release Windows 10 Mobile.

Although Microsoft has yet to confirm when exactly Windows 10 Mobile will be officially released, the latest rumors point to a possible announcement on October 10.
