Microsoft Edge browser is very close to receiving some pretty major updates, as the software giant continues work on the project in an effort to make it a truly powerful rival to Chrome and Firefox.

Two of the new features that will be added in the near future are drag and drop support and tab previews, both of which are already being developed behind closed doors at Microsoft.

The Edge Dev team has confirmed in a Q&A session on Twitter that drag and drop support, which obviously lets you perform a number of tasks more easily and faster in your browser when using a mouse, but also tab previews, which comes in handy when working with multiple tabs, could arrive in the coming updates.

The next big update scheduled for Edge could also bring extension support, which right now is the most anticipated feature for the new browser.

Extension support to work like the one in Chrome

It’s no secret that Microsoft’s working on bringing extension support in Edge, and the company already announced this at its Windows 10 press events earlier this year. The Dev team says that they’re working on introducing an extension model similar to the one in Chrome and Firefox, and extensions that work in Google’s browser should also be compatible with Edge with small tweaks or no code changes at all.

Extensions will be available in the store, so yes, in Windows 10 the store will be the one destination for everything, including apps, games, music, TV shows, movies, and browser extensions.

Right now, there’s no ETA for this new update, but according to people close to the matter, Microsoft’s looking at October or November as a possible date for the release. Either way, extension support and all the other features are expected to arrive in Microsoft Edge by the end of the year.
