The free Windows 10 DVD Player apps doesn’t work correctly

Windows 10 doesn’t come with a Windows Media Center SKU or add-on, but instead Microsoft’s offering a DVD Player app that’s either free for those who previously purchased the pack or available for $15 for those who want to get it now.

Leaving aside the fact that Microsoft’s decision to replace Windows Media Center with a $15 player is questionable, to say the least, given that there are plenty of free apps out there doing the same thing and even more, it turns out that this app isn’t even working as it should.

And Microsoft has just confirmed it.

In a post on the Microsoft Community forums, Microsoft engineer Ellen Kilbourne confirms that some users are experiencing problems with the Windows DVD Player app and has revealed that the company is already working on a fix as we speak.

Simple workarounds for common problems

At the same time, it has provided some standard workarounds for the most common issues with the app, and you can find all of them at the end of the article.

“We are aware that a number of people using the Windows DVD Player app have experienced issues with DVD playback. I want to assure you that we are actively working to fix these problems and get these fixes out to the world. While this work is underway, we would like to share some workarounds for the most common problems that we’ve discovered in collaboration with the community, and let everyone know that we’re looking into them,” Kilbourne has posted.

As mentioned, there are plenty of Windows 10 Media Center alternatives out there, and if the DVD player provided to you by Microsoft isn’t working as expected, you can have a look here for a better replacement. Additionally, here’s a small tutorial on how to install Windows Media Center in Windows 10. Just make sure you create a backup before anything else.
