Microsoft is no longer selling the Surface 3 and the company has taken a pretty big step towards killing this model and focusing exclusively on the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book.

The old model has been around for so long even though Microsoft launched the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book in late 2015, but it was believed that the company would debut a successor to the Surface 3 as well.

However, with the demise of the Surface 3, Microsoft puts the focus entirely on Pro models, with rumors now claiming that the company would introduce a successor as soon as the spring of this year.

The Surface 3 was the first non-Pro Surface that ran the full version of Windows 10, as both the Surface RT and the Surface 2 were powered by Microsoft’s Windows RT flop. The Surface 3, however, hit the shelves as a cheaper alternative to the Surface Pro 3, which also runs Windows 10.

At this point, the Surface 3 is no longer available in Microsoft’s online store and if you visit the product page and click the “Buy now” link, you are redirected to the Surface Pro 4 page instead.

The Surface 3 was quite a compelling product, as it came with a 10.8-inch display and resolution of 1920x1280 pixels and was powered by an Intel Atom x7 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz in normal mode and 2.4 GHz in turbo.

The device was offered in several hardware configurations, including with 2GB RAM + 64GB storage, or with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage.

Just like is the case with all the other Surface tablets, the Surface 3 came with a detachable keyboard, but also with a wide array of connectivity options, including USB 3.0, mini DisplayPort, microSD, microUSB, headphone jack, and the cover port used for the keyboard.

With the Surface 3 gone, the Surface Pro 4 becomes Microsoft’s main product, at least until the arrival of the Surface Pro 5, which is supposed to feature the latest in terms of hardware, including Kaby Lake CPUs and 4K resolution.
