The majority of consumers have already switched to Windows 10, and Microsoft’s priority is now upgrading businesses, as the company is heading towards its goal of bringing the operating system on 1 billion devices across the world.

So today, the company is announcing Microsoft 365, a new bundle that brings Windows 10 and Office 365 together for an offer that businesses can’t refuse, as they provide a powerful productivity mix that includes all the necessary capabilities for enterprises.

Microsoft 365 will be available in two different versions: Microsoft 365 Enterprise, with Office 365 Enterprise, Windows 10 Enterprise, and Enterprise Mobility + Security, and Microsoft 365 Business, which is specifically aimed at small-to-medium sized businesses and includes Office 365 Business Premium, security and management features for Office apps and Windows 10 devices, upgrade rights to Windows 10, and a centralized IT console.

Launching this fall

The software giant says Microsoft 365 Business will cost $20 per user every month, with a preview to roll out on August 2, followed by the public release in the fall.

Microsoft 365 Enterprise, in its turn, is available with two different plans, namely Microsoft 365 E3 and Microsoft 365 E5, with the latter to be primarily focused on delivering the latest tools for security, compliance, analytics, and collaboration.

So what is Microsoft trying to achieve by bringing Office and Windows together in a single bundle? First of all, the company is hoping to upgrade more enterprises to its latest products, especially because a substantial number of companies are still running older versions of Windows or Office. With this offer, enterprises can migrate to the latest Office and Windows releases, thus modernizing the entire IT infrastructure with Microsoft software.

Then, by offering Windows and Office as a single solution, Microsoft aims to convince customers of just one of the two to adopt the other one as well, and thus prevent them from transitioning to solutions developed by rival companies.
