14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has released an update to the Groove Music app that brings Project NEON visual improvements on production machines running Windows 10, as all these tweaks have previously been tested as part of the Windows Insider program.
Currently at version 10.17032.10331.0 on stable versions of Windows 10, Groove Music now features translucency and blur effects that are expected to be part of Project NEON that goes live with the Redstone 3 update in September.
Project NEON is a visual overhaul prepared by Microsoft for Windows 10 and scheduled to launch broadly with the Redstone 3. It includes a bunch of visual effects like blur, as well as new animations, as part of an effort to make the Windows 10 desktop experience feel more modern, but with an impact on performance and productivity.
More visual improvements coming by September
What’s important to know, however, is that the blur effect that’s currently being used in Groove Music is extremely subtle, but it still looks substantially better than the opaque gray that the previous version was using.
At the same time, the Groove Music update also introduces music videos to let you watch clips for songs that do have them, as well as related support to quickly add 10 more songs to any playlist. And last but not least, there’s support for following playlist to listen to tracks as they are added to featured playlists.
To download the latest version of Groove Music on a production system running Windows 10, launch the Windows Store and head over to the Downloads and updates section to get the latest version.
More improvements are very likely to be introduced in the coming weeks, while Project NEON should become an essential part of the operating system with the next OS release taking place in the fall.
Other visual effects and animations are also expected to go live in insider builds rolling out in the summer to participants in the program.
