Redmond pushes out a new firmware update for the Band

Everyone’s now waiting for the second-generation Microsoft Band, but the Redmond-based software giant keeps improving the first model, so recently, the company rolled out a new firmware update supposed to fix bugs and enhance performance.

According to the official Microsoft Band update history page, this new June 2015 firmware update includes “general fixes and improvements,” which is kind of surprising given the fact that Microsoft has already promised to release more new features this summer.

For example, one of the features that should land on our Bands very soon is web tile support, which basically allows the device to pull information from an online service using the phone it’s connected to. This feature, however, is not yet available on the Band but could arrive in a future firmware update.

To download this new firmware version, Microsoft Band owners first need to connect the device to the Health app on their phones. The firmware update is first downloaded on their handsets and then installed on the Band through the very same Health app, which is available on all mobile platforms, including Windows Phone, Android, and iOS.

How about the new Band?

As for the second-generation Microsoft Band, it’s expected to arrive later this year, but Microsoft is struggling to keep all details away from us for now.

Sources close to the matter have previously indicated that the Band 2 is already being tested across Europe, which could be a sign that the device could be available from launch in many more markets across the world.

The first-generation Microsoft Band was released only in the United States and Canada at first, but it was then made available in more countries across the world as demand increased. The Band 2 will thus tackle global demand from launch, so expect it to be available for more buyers from the very beginning.
