Microsoft is getting ready to introduce the second-generation Band, its smart wristband which debuted in November 2014 and proved to be a really successful product.

The Band 2 is now expected to debut on October 6 during Microsoft’s hardware event, when the company is also projected to present the new Surface Pro 4 and Lumia 950 and 950 XL.

MicrosoftInsider.es posted what is believed to be the first official photos of the second-generation Band, which according to them is internally called “Envoy.”

The striking change as compared to the first model is the curved display, which should make the Band more comfortable, especially when not wearing it on the inside of the wrist. The device certainly looks like a Band, but it’s pretty clear that Microsoft spent more time on improving its design, so premium materials are also expected to be used, including aluminum.

More sensors

Details regarding the features that the second-generation Band could bring are not yet available, but the device is likely to come with more sensors, most of them supposed to track exercises. Support for more activities and sports will also be offered.

It appears that Microsoft has also changed the position of the battery, which is now placed underneath the display. Improved battery life is also expected to be offered.

There’s no word on price for the time being, the new Band is likely to come with at least the same price as its predecessor. A small price bump is also possible, but given the discounts the first-generation model received, the new one shouldn’t be much more expensive.

Word has it that Microsoft’s already testing the new Band in Europe, which could be a sign that the company is aiming at an international launch from the very beginning. The first model was originally launched in the United States only to test market demand and only then brought in other markets, such as Europe.
