14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has already announced the Surface Hub 2 earlier this year, and now the company uses the Ignite conference to share more details about this second-generation model.
The software giant will split the launch of Surface Hub 2 in two different parts with the first model called Surface Hub 2S to arrive as soon as the next year.
The debut will take place in the second quarter of 2019, and Microsoft will use the 50.5-inch 4K display with 3:2 aspect ratio, webcam, and touchscreen that will be part of the new generation. However, the 2S will come with the software powering the original Surface Hub, so it won’t include features like screen rotation, tiling, or support for multiple accounts.
Enter Surface Hub 2X
The second version of the Surface Hub 2 will land in 2020 as 2X and will include upgrades in both hardware and software departments.
The most important feature will be support for hardware upgrades with access to a removable processor cartridge that’s placed on the back of the device. Technically, Microsoft will allow customers to replace chips with newer ones, which will also receive software updates in order to add new functionality.
This second Surface Hub configuration will also boast the revolutionary new display with rotation features, and will come with Microsoft’s Office 365 for increased productivity in an office environment.
Microsoft hasn’t yet shared any details regarding the pricing of the new-generation Surface Hub, but it goes without saying that it won’t come cheap. More information will be provided as we get closer to the unveiling of the first model next year.
The first-generation Surface Hub also landed in two different versions, though the difference was made by the size of the screen. The 55-inch model was priced in the United States at $8,999, while the bigger sibling with an 84-inch display was available for $21,999.
