Microsoft launched Office 2016 yesterday for users across the world, but those who have already upgraded to Windows 10 can get the new software at a really special price.

Terry Myerson, head of the Windows team at Microsoft, announced today that Windows 10 users who have Office 2010 or earlier can get Office 2016 with a 50 percent discount if they decide to purchase an Office 365 subscription.

All they have to do is use the built-in Get Office app integrated in Windows 10 to benefit from the offer, Myerson explained.

“I also want to highlight a very cool offer from the Office team - if you upgrade to Windows 10 and have Office 2010 or earlier, you can get a 50% discount on a one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal through the pre-installed Get Office app,” he stated.

Free Office for Windows 10 users

Office 365 Personal is the most affordable version of the productivity suite and costs only $6.99 per month and $69.99 per year, but prices could vary depending on the country. If you instead plan to purchase Office 2016 without a subscription, you have to pay $149 for the Home & Student version and $229 for Home & Business, but no discount is being offered to Windows 10 users.

Those who have already installed Microsoft’s new operating system, though, can install a free version of Office if their device has a screen of 10 inches or smaller. The free Office, which is optimized for the touch and offered as a universal app through the store, comes with the basic feature package to let users open documents, spreadsheets, and presentations on PCs, tablets, and smartphones running Windows 10.

As far as the Get Office app is concerned, it’s pre-installed in Windows 10 and you can easily find it by simply searching in the Start menu.
