Microsoft has just confirmed at the Worldwide Partner Conference 2015 in Orlando that new flagships running its mobile platform are on their way and will debut later this year.

Terry Myerson, head of the Windows division, has said during his keynote at WPC that “new premium Lumias designed for Windows 10” will see daylight soon, but no other details have been provided.

This is living proof that Microsoft is still committed to mobile, despite all the rumors that have reached the web in the last couple of weeks, after the company announced job cuts in the Phone Hardware division, with many saying that Windows Phone is going dark very soon.

Lumia 940 and 940 XL

Undoubtedly, two of the premium Lumias coming are 940 and 940 XL, the new flagships that are supposed to be the successors to Lumia 930 and possibly 1520.

Lumia 940 is likely to come with a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 px display, if the leaked specs are accurate, but also with 3 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 808 processor. 32 GB of storage is likely to be offered, and so are a 20-megapixel PureVIew camera on the back and a 5-megapixel front-facing unit on the front.

Leaks have also indicated that the Lumia 940 could be made of polycarbonate (which might make it more expensive than the iPhone 6) and also feature an iris scanner.

The Lumia 940 XL, which could be Redmond's new phablet, could come with a 5.7-inch 2560x1440px display, a Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32 GB of storage plus SD card support. Same cameras and materials used on the Lumia 940 could also be borrowed by the bigger device.

Both models will support Continuum and will debut together with the new Windows 10 Mobile later this year, unconfirmed information suggests. Microsoft is yet to confirm all of these, so take these specs with a pinch of salt for the time being.
