14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 build 10240, often referred to as either an RTM candidate or the RTM version itself, a few days ago, with the company promising that updates and improvements would arrive over the next few weeks ahead of the public launch on July 29.
A few minutes ago, Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, revealed that the very first such update would go live today for Windows 10 build 10240 users, so keep an eye on Windows Update in the next few hours to get it as soon as it becomes available.
Aul hasn't yet revealed what exactly is new in this update, but he did explain that just like all the other patches, it would ship via Windows Update and install automatically, but you can also check for it and download manually.
Labeled as security update
Most likely, this new patch includes bug fixes and performance improvements, as Microsoft is hard at work to make the experience in Windows 10 as smooth as possible.
Windows 10 reached RTM this week, so Microsoft is now at work to fix as many bugs as possible before the July 29 launch. While insiders would get these bug fixes when they are released, everyone else will receive them on day 1, just after upgrading to Windows 10.
Today's update will be labeled as a security patch, Aul explained, but several other improvements are also expected to be included.
“We're releasing an update package on WU for PC build 10240 today. It will install automatically or you can check for updates to grab it. It will be described as a security update, but that's just because it's cumulative and includes the last package's security fix,” he explained.
The update isn't yet available at the time of publishing this article, but it should show up very soon in Windows Update for all build 10240 users.
