14 DAY TRIAL // The dates of Microsoft’s 2018 Build developer conference have just leaked, revealing something that’s a little bit unexpected: this year, the event overlaps with Google’s very own I/O.
Microsoft typically releases the official Build announcement with dates and tickets information in late December or early January, but this year the company has remained completely tight-lipped until now.
Twitter user @h0x0d, however, posted a teaser image revealing that Microsoft’s Build could take place between May 7 and May 9 this year in Seattle. These details do make sense given that Microsoft typically holds the developer conference in April or May, but they also reveal that in 2018, Redmond’s event opens its doors nearly at the same time as Google’s I/O.
This year, Google’s own developer event will happen between May 8 and May 10, at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, according to a January announcement.
Redstone 5 preview?
While Microsoft’s Build conference is mostly aimed at developers, the event is generating increasing interest from consumers as well, especially because the software giant is using it to preview improvements coming to the Windows operating system.
This year, the company is expected to discuss the changes that will be implemented in Windows 10 Redstone 5, the next update for Windows 10 projected to see daylight in the fall. Right now, Microsoft is finalizing the Redstone 4 update, while the first Redstone 5 preview builds are expected to be shipped to insiders in the coming weeks.
With the release date set for the fall of this year, Redstone 5 and the improvements that’ll be part of it will certainly have their own place in Microsoft’s agenda at this year’s Build.
Of course, the Build 2018 agenda is still unknown at this point, but Microsoft is expected to release an official announcement very soon, especially because attendees need to plan their travel and reserve tickets.
