Microsoft’s increased focus on the Surface Pen, and the success this little accessory recorded in the last few years, convinced others to invest big in styluses, with Wacom being one of the most important players in this particular market.

This week, the company launched two new stylus models targeting specifically Windows and iOS users with features that are optimized to be used on these two platforms.

First and foremost, Windows users are getting the Bamboo Ink, a version that can be used for both writing and drawing, though the focus is on the first activity. There are three different nibs, namely soft, medium, and firm, and Wacom hopes to make it a rival to the recently-launched Surface Pen, which comes with substantial updates, including more than 4,000 pressure levels.

Then, it’s the iOS version that’s called Bamboo Sketch and whose purpose is to make writing or drawing on an iPad substantially easier.

Just like the Surface Pen, the Bamboo Sketch comes with replaceable tips and uses Bluetooth to connect to iPads and iPhones. What’s interesting is that, although it’s mainly targeted at the iPad Pro, it can also be used on the standard iPad, offering advanced features such as multiple pressure levels on any iPad.

Wacom says that the Bamboo Sketch should be good enough to provide up to 15 hours of autonomy per charge, offering a magnetic connector and USB for quick charging.

The Bamboo Ink and the Bamboo Sketch will go on sale next month in the United States and will be available for $79.95.

Microsoft has also announced an upgraded pen at its Surface event in May, with the debut to take place very soon as the company is also releasing new Surface Pro models and the first Surface Laptop generation.

Apple itself is also expected to unveil its latest upgrades to the Pencil next week at WWDC, alongside a new-generation iPad Pro that will boast a 10.5-inch bezel-less display.
