Workaround also provided by Microsoft, fix on its way

Microsoft has recently confirmed that Windows 10 cumulative update KB4093112, which was released on Patch Tuesday to systems running the Fall Creators Update, could cause various pen issues.

Last week, we reported that a number of users complained of problems experienced with Wacom pens after installing this cumulative update, including incorrect input and pressure sensitivity.

In an updated posted on the official KB page, Microsoft says KB4093112 is indeed to blame for what it calls “unexpected panning or scrolling in certain apps while using the pen.” The company, however, does not say whether the bug is hitting only Wacom pens or others as well.

On the other hand, what Microsoft does provide is a temporary workaround that users can turn to in order to address the bug until a fix lands. The software giant explains it has already started work on a patch and it is projected to become available in a future update, possibly on the next Patch Tuesday.

From Start, search for cmd
Right-click Command Prompt in the search results, and choose Run as administrator
At the command prompt, type or copy/paste:
reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pen /v LegacyPenInteractionModel /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
Press Enter
The original known issue in cumulative update KB4093112 is still there, and Microsoft says that Windows Update History could incorrectly list the patch as failed to install. To check whether it installed correctly or not, you can press Win key + R and then type winver. If Windows version is 16299.371, the update installed correctly.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4093112 comes with several important fixes, including security patches that were aimed at vulnerabilities addressed on Patch Tuesday in all supported Windows versions. There are fixes for flaws in browsers, including Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge, as well as in the Windows graphics module, the Windows kernel, and the Microsoft Scripting engine.
