Indian handset maker Micromax has just announced its affordable Canvas Nitro 4G smartphone is now available for purchase at major retailers across the country.

According to Micromax, its Canvas Nitro series sold more than 600,000 smartphones in less than a year since its launch, which is why the Indian company is determined to bring additional models to the market.

The latest addition to the Canvas Nitro ships with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system right out of the box. It also packs Google services and apps such as Drive, Hangouts and voice search.

Customers can now purchase the Micromax Canvas Nitro 4G for just Rs 10,999 outright, which is about $165 or €150, a new report confirms.

Spec-wise, the Canvas Nitro 4G is pretty decent, as the smartphone is powered by a 64-bit 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 415 processor, an Adreno 405 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

Surprisingly good specs for such a low price

The smartphone comes with 16GB of storage inside, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD card.

Micromax also added a 13-megapixel camera on the back, which features dual LED flash, ISOCELL image sensor, 5-element lens and full HD (1080p) video recording. There's also a 5-megapixel camera in the front for selfies.

As the name suggests, Micromax's mid-range smartphone offers 4G LTE but also comes with dual-SIM feature.

Last but not least, the Canvas Nitro 4G sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution, and is powered by a 2,500 mAh battery.

“With the launch of Canvas Nitro 4G, we aim to bring a perfect combination of technology, rich features and a faster 4G experience at a great value to more and more consumers.

“As pioneers in democratizing technology, we at Micromax believe this product will take the 4G adoption in India to a new level. The launch is just the starting point and will be followed by a full range of best value 4G devices from Micromax,” said Mr. Vineet Taneja, CEO, Micromax Informatics.
