Ashton Kutcher was probably hoping for some recognition from the critics for his role in the 2013 Steve Jobs biopic “Jobs,” but all he got instead is the eternal association to a mess of a movie. It’s not that Kutcher did a horrible job as the Apple co-founder, but rather that his performance wasn’t enough to help audiences ignore the flaws in the movie.

Michael Fassbender will be taking on the role of Jobs next in the upcoming “Steve Jobs,” also known as the other Steve Jobs movie, but with a stronger cast, director and writer.

This one, scheduled to hit theaters in October, is already getting some Oscar buzz, with industry insiders saying that it might land both Fassbender and Boyle an Oscar nomination. Apparently, even Fassbender thinks Kutcher’s movie was a dud.

“Steve Jobs” screened at the New York Film Festival over the weekend, and the cast and director were on hand to discuss it on a panel, The Guardian reports. Asked how he prepared for the role, Fassbender “smirked” and responded with “I studied Ashton Kutcher.” Ouch.

On a less mean note, THR says that during the same panel, Fassbender revealed that he knew he looked nothing like Jobs, but that he hoped this might actually work in favor of the movie because it would stop fans from hoping to see a documentary. A biopic is not a documentary, he made sure to stress.
