Arne Exton, the creator of numerous free and commercial Linux kernel-based and Android operating systems, was glad to inform us earlier about the general availability of MeX Linux Build 150714.

The new MeX Linux release is based on Linux Mint 17.2 (Rafaela), which is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), but it also includes elements from the Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) and Debian GNU/Linux 8 (Jessie) operating systems. Build 150714 of MeX Linux is built around the highly customized Cinnamon 2.6.13 desktop environment.

Powered by Ubuntu 15.04's Linux 3.19.0-22-generic kernel, which replaces the kernel 3.19.0-5-exton package, MeX Linux Build 150714 is available for download only for 64-bit computers and replaces Ubuntu's Ubiquity installation utility with the in-house built MeX Installer.

"MeX is not just a 'duplicate' of Mint," says Arne Exton in an email to Softpedia. "MeX uses a much newer kernel etc. Also: Linux Mint 17.2 'Rafaela' is based on Debian and Ubuntu 14.04 'Trusty Tahr.' MeX build 150714 is based on Debian 8 'Jessie,' Ubuntu 15.04 'Vivid Vervet' and Linux Mint 17.2."

MeX Linux can now run entirely from RAM

Another interesting feature of the new MeX Linux build is that the users can run the live session directly from RAM (computer's system memory) ejecting the bootable medium, which can be either a USB stick or a DVD disc, as the ISO image is hybrid and features persistence technology, so you can save your data and reuse the media.

The Google Chrome web browser was installed in the default system, so you can watch Netflix movies without too much hassle, and all the main components have been updated to their latest versions available as of July 14, 2015. Download MeX Linux Build 150714 right now from Softpedia.
