Deal does not apply to other MVNO customers, or T-Mobile's

In an attempt to lure in more customers from other carriers, MetroPCS recently announced a new deal aimed at those who are willing to switch from other network operators.

The current deal is available in stores only and for a limited time, so if you want to take advantage of it, you should port your number by the end of September.

It's also worth mentioning that it appears that customers of other MVNOs will not qualify for this offer and neither do T-Mobile customers.

Nevertheless, those who qualify for the offer will receive a free phone and 1GB of free extra data at up to 4G LTE speeds every month.

The free phone is the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, an affordable Android smartphone that was available at MetroPCS until recently for just $50.

The 1GB of free data is on top of what MetroPCS' plans offer

Keep in mind that the deal only applies to the $40 and $50 plans, so make sure you choose one of those if you want the free phone and free LTE data.

As long as you remain a MetroPCS subscriber, you will continue to receive the extra 1GB of LTE data and if you don't want the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, then the carrier will offer you a $50 rebate on any other Android smartphone in its portfolio.

The Galaxy Core Prime, while an affordable smartphone, comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system right out of the box.

The device sports a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution. It also packs a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, as well as a modest 2-megapixel camera in the front.

Samsung Galaxy Core Prime is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory with microSD expansion up to 64GB.
