Collabora's Emil Velikov announced a few moments ago the general availability of the first point release of the latest Mesa 17.3 open-source graphics stack for modern GNU/Linux distributions.

Usually, when the first point release of a major stable Mesa 3D Graphics Library series is out, it means that the respective branch is finally available for mass adoption. In this case, today's Mesa 17.3.1 minor maintenance update ensures the stability or Mesa 17.3 stable series, so users can now safely upgrade to it if they want.

In Mesa 17.3.1, we see improvements for the Radeon RADV Vulkan driver so that it won't advertise the VK_EXT_debug_report Vulkan extension because isn't yet supported, multiple improvements to the GLSL shader cache, and various smaller fixes for the Intel i965, RadeonSI, Freedreno, and Nouveau (nvc0) graphics drivers.

"In this release we have multiple fixes and improvements of the GLSL shader cache. The RADV driver no longer advertises VK_EXT_debug_report - there is no support for it. The i965, radeonsi, nvc0 and freedreno drivers have received a few small fixes each," writes Collabora's Emil Velikov in the mailing list announcement.

Mesa 17.3.1 coming soon to a GNU/Linux distro near you

Released a couple of weeks ago, Mesa 17.3 is the latest and most advanced series of the Linux graphics stack, advancing the implementation of the OpenGL 4.6 specification into the Intel i965, RadeonSI, and Nouveau (nvc0) graphics drivers, as well as to add support for multiple Vulkan extensions to both the Intel ANV and AMD Radeon RADV Vulkan drivers.

It also introduces experimental NIR support in the RadeonSI driver, full support for the OpenGL 2.1 standard in the Etnaviv driver, the merge of the libdxtn library, and GFX9+ devices support tessellation and geometry shaders. Mesa 17.3.1 point release is now available for download through our software portal if you fancy compiling it yourself on your favorite GNU/Linux distribution.
