Immediately after announcing the last maintenance update to the Mesa 13.0 3D Graphics Library series, Collabora's Emil Velikov published the second point release for the new Mesa 17.0 branch.

Mesa 17.0.2 is here only two weeks after the release of the first maintenance update to Mesa 17.0, which is currently the most advanced stable branch of the graphics stack used by default in numerous Linux-based operating systems.

According to the changelog, which we've attached at the end of the article for your reading please, Mesa 17.0.2 includes a little over 40 changes improving the Radeon RADV and Intel ANV Vulkan drivers, but also the Nouveau, Radeon and Intel i965 ones.

"One dozen fixes in each of the Vulkan drivers ANV and RADV. Misc. Improvements in the i965, Nouveau (nvc0) and Radeon drivers. To top it up we have a build fix for the clover (OpenCL) state-tracker," reads the mailing list announcement.

A recommended update for all Linux users

The adoption of the Mesa 17.0 3D Graphics Library series among GNU/Linux distributions moves at slow pace these days, but now that the second point release is out, we have all the reasons to believe more distros will adopt it for their users.

Mesa 17.0.2 is a recommended update for all Linux users, especially gamers, and it should be soon available for installation from the stable software repositories of your favorite GNU/Linux distribution.

The upcoming Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) operating system should also ship with the newest Mesa 17.0 graphics stack, along with the latest maintenance update of the X.Org Server 1.19 display server; all of them contributing to a better gaming experience.

With this announcement, we're urging OS vendors to download the Mesa 17.0.2 source tarball from our website, compile and tweak it for their platforms, and distribute it to the official channels for users to be able to update at their earliest convenience.
