Collabora's Emil Velikov has announced the release and general availability of the third and likely the last RC (Release Candidate) build of the upcoming Mesa 12.0.0 3D Graphics Library.

Mesa 3D Graphics Library 12.0.0 Release Candidate 3 arrives more than a week after the second RC version, bringing a total of 111 changes to most of the included graphics drivers and components. The full changelog has been attached at the end of the article just in case you're wondering what's new in this update.

As mentioned before, there are numerous improvements implemented in the third Release Candidate of Mesa 12.0.0 3D Graphics Library, especially for Intel i965, but also for things like RadeonSI, Gallium, and Nouveau. However, the most important change is the fact that Mesa 3D no longer comes with a single VAAPI driver backend.

"Note for distribution maintainers: Mesa no longer provides a single VAAPI (Video Acceleration API) driver backend - gallium_drv_video. With this release separate drivers are available analogous to DRI, XvMC and VDPAU," says Emil Velikov, Software Release Engineer, Collabora.

Final release of Mesa 3D 12.0.0 is almost here

Yes, that's right, the development of the Mesa 3D Graphics Library 12.0.0, which will be a massive release promising hundreds of enhancements, is almost over. There might be a fourth Release Candidate (RC) build announced next week if the developers think it's not ready for primetime, but we expect to see Mesa 3D 12.0.0 land quite soon.

If you want to help with the testing and report bugs, you're invited to download the Mesa 12.0.0 3D Graphics Library Release Candidate 3 sources right now via our website and install the software on your GNU/Linux operating system. But please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, which means that it might contain some bugs.
