Earlier today, October 3, Collabora's Emil Velikov had the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download of the ninth and last maintenance release of the Mesa 3D Graphics Library 10.6 branch.

According to the internal changelog, which we have attached at the end of the article for your viewing pleasure, Mesa 10.6.9 is here to (finally) patch those annoying crashes for users of the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environments that occur when using Intel graphics cards, and addresses a regression with the Gallium drivers for the Unreal Tournament FPS (First-Person Shooter) game.

Moreover, there are fixes for the Astromenace 3D scroll-shooter game and the Flat Demo version of the Redway3D software. The ninth point release of Mesa 3D Graphics Library 10.6 also fixes issues with the broken OpenGL build and addresses numerous other bugs and regressions that had been introduced in the previous release and reported by users.

"This release covers KDE crashes with i965, regression in Unreal Tournament with gallium drivers, fixes for Redway3D Flat (Demo) and Astromenace. The mangled GL build has also been fixed," says Emil Velikov, software release engineer at Collabora. "It is anticipated that 10.6.9 will be the final release in the 10.6 series. Users of 10.6 are encouraged to migrate to the 11.0 series in order to obtain future fixes."

Please move to Mesa 11.0 as soon as possible

As mentioned, this is most probably the last maintenance release of the Mesa 10.6 series, so users and distribution vendors are urged to move all of their Mesa 10.6 packages to the current stable branch of the 3D graphics library, Mesa 11.0, which already has two point releases out, Mesa 11.0.1 and Mesa 11.0.2.

If you still want to remain on the Mesa 10.6 branch for a while before migrating to the Mesa 11.0 series, you can always download the Mesa 3D Graphics Library 10.6.9 sources right now from Softpedia. More details about this release can be found in the release notes attached below.
