Meizu is prepping for a new device release

Yesterday, Meizu teased an image on Weibo saying something about “the long era of 1110,” so we assumed the Chinese company was trying to hint at some future partnership with Nokia. After all, the Finnish device maker announced it was looking for a “world-class” partner to help it with the manufacturing of its 2016-bound phone.

However, now it appears that Meizu was probably trying to say something about its upcoming M2 handset, which is poised to go live on July 29. Gizmo China reports that the Chinese device maker has started sending out invites for said event, and surprise, surprise, the package contains a semi-functional Nokia 1110 feature phone.

What Meizu might be trying to say here is that the M2 will launch with a similar price tag/performance/sturdiness as Nokia’s iconic device. Or maybe something else entirely, we're just guessing here (a partnership between the two might still be announced).

According to the rumor mill, the Meizu M2 should make it out on the market with a price tag of around $100 / €78.

Above, we’ve told you the Nokia phone is not fully functional because, even if it can be turned on, it can’t be used to place phone calls and such. The only thing it can do is display the Meizu M2 official launch date, which is July 29.

Meizu M2 spec roundup

Although the Meizu M2 is yet to make a debut, the specifications of the device have already leaked online. So we’re looking at a 5-inch device with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and a 64-bit MediaTek MT6735 SoC with an octa-core CPU plus Mali-T720 GPU.

Meizu is also throwing in 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot), a 13MP primary camera accompanied by a 5MP selfie one, 4G LTE and dual-SIM capabilities.

The device is kept alive by a 2,700 mAh battery and should arrive with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box with Flyme UI on top.

Even if we’re told that the phone will take advantage of a microSD card slot, the battery will probably be non-removable.

Meizu has certainly made us quite curious in respect to the M2, so naturally a question arises: will the new phone manage to rise up to the glory of the Nokia 1110?
