It's designed specifically for Ubuntu's Unity desktop

Today, we have the great pleasure of informing you about a new flat theme for GNU/Linux distributions, especially Ubuntu Linux, for which it was initially designed by its creator, called Flatabulous.

Flatabulous was designed by Anmol Jagetia specifically for Ubuntu's Unity user interface. It is a flat theme, and peeking at some screenshots we've attached in a gallery at the end of the article, it looks quite superb.

"I am writing this article, as an How to for installing the Flat Theme, called Flatabulous for Ubuntu. This might work for other desktop environments, but I have only thoroughly tested it on Ubuntu Unity desktop," says Anmol Jagetia.

Flatabulous should work perfectly with any supported Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based operating system that uses the Unity desktop environment, including Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin), Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), and Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet).

Here's how to install Flatabulous in your Ubuntu OS

Those of you who want to install the Flatabulous theme right now on their Ubuntu desktops need to first install the Ubuntu Tweak tool, which will be used to switch the default theme. Open the Terminal app and run the following commands, one by one, hitting the Enter key after each one.

code
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak
Then, you will have to download Flatabulous' source package, create a folder in your Home directory called .theme, which will be hidden by default, and extract the zip archive there. Alternatively, you can also extract it in your /usr/share/themes/ directory.

Now open the Unity Dash, search for Ubuntu Tweak, open it, go to the Tweaks tab, and select the Theme option. Choose the Flatabulous theme from the list and then restart your session. That's it! The Flatabulous creator recommends installing the Ultra Flat Icon theme as well, so run the following commands in a Terminal.

code
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/icons
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ultra-flat-icons
