Designed with the educational needs of various schools and universities in mind, the Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 1.00 distribution arrives today based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 8.5 "Jessie" operating system, yet using some of the in-house built tools from the HandyLinux distro.
When he informed us about the release of HandyLinux 2.5, Arpinux, the developer of HandyLinux, also announced a collaboration with Patrick Emmabuntüs, who contributed a translation for the distro's HandySoft software center, which is now included in Emmabuntüs Debian Edition, along with HandyUpdateChecker and HandyTri.
The default desktop environment used for the Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 1.00 operating system is the highly customizable and lightweight Xfce, and users will find many popular open-source applications and tools, among which we can mention the Scratch text editor, Transmageddon audio converter, and Mozilla Firefox ESR web browser.

It includes free and non-free drivers for Wi-Fi support in live mode
In the announcement, Patrick Emmabuntüs informs us that Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 1.00 includes various free and non-free drivers to support as many Wi-Fi cards as possible when running the OS in live mode. He also lets us know that the HPLIP (HP Linux Imaging and Printing) 3.16.5 software is installed for out-of-the-box printing support, along with the non-libre TurboPrint utility and a driver installer for Brother printers.
For a flawless video streaming experience, the Pepper Flash plugin for the open-source Chromium project has been installed in Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 1.00. The MintLocal utility from Linux Mint is present to handle installation of additional languages, a nifty script will help users select a screensaver image, and Ancestris replaces Gramps as the main genealogy software.
As for the artwork, the operating system has been beautified with the Revival icon theme.
