Corduroy recently turned 26, is quite perky for his age

Corduroy, a feline living in Oregon, US, together with owner Ashley Reed Okura, celebrated his 26th birthday a couple of weeks ago, on August 1. He is officially the absolute oldest cat in existence, the title confirmed by Guinness World Records officials.

In case anyone was wondering, cats have an average lifespan of 15 years. So, yes, Corduroy's age is pretty impressive. Kind of like having a human live to turn 130. Certainly something worth celebrating.

Despite his age, Corduroy still goes hunting

Owner Ashley Reed Okura got Corduroy when he was just 7. As old as he now is, the feline is still surprisingly perky. He still goes exploring the family's 160-acre property and hasn't lost his knack for hunting birds or small rodents.

In fact, his owner says that, for his 26th birthday this past August 1, he got him a live white mouse that Corduroy found most appealing.

This feline in Oregon was first proclaimed the oldest living cat back in 2014. Then, he lost his title to another feline named Tiffany Two. After Tiffany Two's death back in this year's July at the age of 27 years, 2 months and 20 days, he regained his crown.

Not the oldest cat ever, not by a long shot

26-year-old Corduroy might be the oldest living cat anywhere in the world, but he is not the oldest cat on record. Not by a long shot.

This title is held by a feline named Crème Puff who, born in 1967, lived to celebrate her 38th birthday.

“Corduroy is still a few years off the oldest cat ever, Crème Puff, who was born in 1967 and lived until 2005 - an incredible 38 years and 3 days (more than double the average life expectancy of the species),” Guinness World Records explains.

Then again, what with his passion for life, Corduroy might just set a new world record.
