Step counter now available at McDonald’s Canada

If you’re looking for a basic activity tracker and you’re living in Canada, you can very well go to the nearest McDonald’s and buy a Happy Meal, as the fast-food restaurant chain has just launched a brand new campaign for local customers.

McDonald’s is offering a step counter with every Happy Meal in an attempt to encourage sports, health, and wellness and to fight criticism that it’s one of the companies more interested in making money than in educating customers against bad eating habits.

McDonald’s activity tracker is called “Step it!” and doesn’t provide the same advanced features as the typical smartwatch, and the only thing that it features is a step counter to make sure you stay in tip-top shape. The device is more appropriate for kids, and its colorful design is living proof, and so is the fact that it replaces the traditional toy offered with a Happy Meal.

Available in multiple colors

The tracker is available in multiple colors, including red, blue, green, yellow, and others, and is only available in Canada, but McDonald’s could bring it in other countries as well, depending on the feedback it receives following this pilot program.

Certainly, this is an interesting offer, but activists believe that it still doesn’t change the fact that McDonald’s is providing kids with super easy access to junk food and always launches new campaigns that bring them in restaurants and thus promote bad eating habits.

McDonald’s hasn’t said anything about how long this offer is going to last, so if you want to get one of the trackers, you’d better hurry up to grab one while they’re still available.

On the other hand, if you want a more advanced tracker, you can always have a look at Samsung’s Gear Fit 2 or the Microsoft Band 2, which, at the moment, are two of the best available on the market. In terms of smartwatches, the Apple Watch is clearly worth a chance, but this only works only if you have an iPhone.
