Existing users don't need to download the new ISO respin

It's been almost a month since the Maui 2 "Blue Tang" Linux distro arrived based on the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system and KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS desktop environment, and now the first ISO respin is here.

Maui 2.1 is a refreshed installation medium for those who want to install the Ubuntu-based distribution on their personal computers, including various updated packages, but it mainly focuses on fixing various issues reported by users with the Calamares installer since Maui 2.

Therefore, if you plan on installing the Maui 2 Linux operating system, we recommend that you download the Maui 2.1 Live ISO image instead of the Maui 2 one released at the end of October 2016. Existing users don't need to download anything, just make sure that your Maui 2 "Blue Tang" installation is up to date.

"So if you installed from any Maui version so far and enable the Backports Channels and Update, you should have the same updated system. It is just that we release updated ISOs from time to time as a starting point, so that new users don’t need to update too many packages right from the start," explained the devs.

Maui 2 is a part-rolling distro based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

As you might know already, Maui 2 is a part-rolling distro based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus), which means that it will receive updates for five years, until 2021, or until the next major Ubuntu LTS version, namely Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, hits the streets in April 2018.

Maui 2 ships with the latest KDE technologies, including KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS, KDE Applications 16.08.2, KDE Frameworks 5.27.0, and Qt 5.7.0. It's powered by the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel, and includes popular apps like Mozilla Firefox web browser and Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client.
