Hear ye, hear ye! Valve just pushed a few minutes ago a new, massive update to the stable branch of their Steam desktop client for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

The October 7 update of the Steam client brings all sorts of goodies for you, gamers from all over the world who love and adore Valve's Internet-based digital distribution platform. Let's start with the biggies, as the Web control has been updated to the open-source Chromium 45.0.2454.85 web browser, and there's now a native Big Picture user interface for viewing your hard-worked achievements, as well as Workshop items, leaderboards, artwork, screenshots, and videos.

A notification bar has been introduced specifically for those of you who have not yet had the time to add a mobile phone number to their Steam account (better do it sooner if you want more security), a separate Steam Library category has been added for those awesome SteamVR-enabled games, the Big Picture mode now lets you search inside of your Steam Library, along with the ability to move the on-screen keyboard just by pressing the X button.

More and more new features land for the Big Picture mode

In addition to all the goodies mentioned above, the October 7 update of the Steam client brings even more new features to the Big Picture mode, such as better controller support, especially when viewing games in your Steam Library, the progress of your game badges is now displayed in the Library detail view, the mouse-only navigation has just got a little more better in the Library view, and players can now block game controller events when using the Overaly.

Among other new features, we can mention that the In-Home Streaming functionality has just received streaming controller support for the Ys Origin and  Fairy Bloom Freesia games, there's now support for FLAC, M4A (both Apple Lossless and AAC), and OGG Vorbis audio streams, along with the ability to seek within a track that is currently playing. Oh, and there are are numerous bugs squashed! OK now, go and update your Steam client on SteamOS, Linux, Windows, or Mac OS X.
