Android 7.0 Nougat is nowhere to be found

Google has just released the Android Distribution Chart for September and we have to say that it's rather late, considering that it' almost the middle of the month and usually the numbers are released during the first days of the month. The chart doesn't come with any surprises.

Google has just released September's distribution numbers and they're rather predictable. Marshmallow 6.0 continues to grow and now reaches 18.7%, up 3.5% from last month's 15.2%.

The number isn't surprising, considering that many smartphones have been updated to this Android version in the past month. Lollipop 5.0 and 5.1 reached 35%, down 0.5% from 35.5% in August. Lollipop 5.0 actually lost a full point, from last month's 14.1%, while Lollipop 5.1 rose 0.5%, but this didn't help the overall decline of Android Lollipop.

It's probably the last month that we'll see Froyo in the distribution chart

Next in line is Kit Kat, which now reaches 27.7%, down 1.5% compared to the distribution numbers presented last month. Jelly Bean 4.1.x, 4.2.x and 4.3 all dropped 1.1 points together, reaching a collective share of 15.6%.

Additionally, Ice Cream Sandwich lost 0.2% reaching 1.4% this month, while Gingerbread also decreased 0.2% to 1.5% share of the Android market. Froyo continues to hold its ground at 0.1% and this might actually be the last Android Distribution Chart that will include Android 2.2 Froyo.

Google didn't include Android 7.0 Nougat in this month's distribution chart, and that shouldn't come as a surprise. Nougat started rolling out just a few weeks ago, specifically two weeks before the numbers were prepared.

What's more, the Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update for Nexus 6P was pulled shortly after the release, as the version caused some battery and performance issues for such smartphones. Moreover, the Nougat build for Nexus 6 hasn't even been pushed out yet. Android's latest version will most likely appear in the distribution numbers to be posted in October.
