Another day, another app getting pulled from the Store

Just like users, developers barely find a reason to stick with Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that many of them are now jumping ship to Android and iOS.

The latest to do it is Marriott International, which has recently announced that the app for Windows phones would be retired because we all know why: the dropping market share that makes no sense to invest in the platform.

In a notification being sent to users, Marriott explains that the app is indeed being pulled, but all user data will remain there in the account, as there still are alternative ways to connect. The best of them? Android and iOS, as both platforms will continue to receive updates for their official clients.

“The Marriott app for Windows will soon retire. Your Marriott Rewards account history and existing reservations will remain the same. Thank you for being a loyal member,” the company says.

Android and iOS getting frequent updates

On the other hand, Windows Phone users are not alone in this fiasco, as the Windows 10 client is also being pulled. As compared to phones, however, Window 10 users on the desktop have several other ways to make reservations, including through the Marriott website. The same workaround is available for Windows phone users too, though we all know that apps always come in handy.

In case you’re wondering, the official Marriott International app is getting regular updates on Android and iOS, with new features and improvements being added almost every month.

The most recent update for iPhones landed on May 12 and bumped version number to 6.3.1, adding clickable hotel addresses for the active stay to make it possible to easily copy and paste the content in Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze.

So for Windows users who still want to make a reservation at Marriott, the website is the only way to go, as the app is going dark any minute now.
