Great news for fans of the iconic sitcom “Married with Children,” the story of the Bundy family that ran on Fox until 1997, for 11 seasons: plans are underway to bring it back on the small screen.

News of the possible spinoff has been confirmed by David Faustino, who played Bud Bundy, and Christina Applegate, who starred as his sister Kelly, on the red carpet of the “Vacation” premiere.

Indeed, this won’t be a proper reboot, Faustino explains (video below): the pilot would focus on Bud and “a few other people,” but his closest family members are bound to reprise their roles.

This means that Ed O’Neill will return as Al and Katey Sagal will be back as Peg. If the pilot fares well in terms of audience, Faustino hopes he will get an order for a full season. He won’t say what the direction the show will go in if that happens.

That’s probably because he knows there’s still a chance the show won’t be greenlit.

“Sony has it. They’re excited about it,” he says. “They’re working out some legal issues that we hope they work out. The whole cast, including Christina, is down to do little bits in it, and we hope it comes together.”

Applegate confirmed that she and the other 2 actors had promised Faustino cameos on his spinoff, if it gets made.

So this won’t technically be the “Married with Children” many of us grew up with, but it will be the closest thing possible.
