George Clooney once said that he would never marry again, having gone down that road and seen that it was not for him. When Amal Alamuddin came into his life, his perspective shifted and he ended up walking down the aisle once more, in 2014.

Now, a little over one year later, George is realizing that the marriage was probably a mistake. He wants out of it as soon as possible, but the only thing stopping him is the thought of the $220 million (€194.3 million) divorce, The National Enquirer reports.

“The honeymoon is definitely over”

Rumor has it that all of Clooney’s previous romances included an iron-clad contract that gagged the ladies from speaking to the press once the relationship was over. In exchange, they would get a lot of money and even houses, as well as the right to keep all presents they had received from the actor during their time together.

So George Clooney is no stranger to contracts even in his personal life. When he met and decided to marry Amal, the Enquirer says, citing sources close to him, it was a business deal for him. So much for all that talk that he was wildly in love with her and thrilled by the idea that he had finally met his equal.

No, he knew exactly what he wanted: he wanted a partner who could be perceived as his equal, who would aid him in his future political career. So they struck a deal: they would attempt to stay equals.

In recent months, Clooney began noticing that Amal is spending too much of her time at work, which means that he is the one who has to fit his schedule around her. The “businesslike arrangement is crumbling,” the tabloid claims.

George Clooney wants out of the marriage

Apparently, the actor is so over Amal and married life that he too is doing his best to spend more time away from home, even when she’s around.

He’s also been thinking about a divorce and how he could get it. The problem is, according to the Enquirer, the same contract he and Amal signed. Note that the tab is working under the assumption that a man as business-savvy (and rich) as George didn’t ask for a prenup.

“It’s a nightmare for George, and he wants out,” the insider claims. “To George, his marriage certificate is just like any other contract. Unfortunately, at this point a renegotiation means a $220 million [€194.3 million] divorce!”

In other words, the Clooneys might be heading towards a nasty divorce already, mere days after their first wedding anniversary.
