Facebook will launch universal apps for Windows 10

As announced yesterday during Microsoft's hardware event in New York, Facebook will finally launch the Windows 10 party and bring its very own universal apps to the market, thus allowing users of both PCs and smartphones running this OS version to access their accounts without the need for third-party apps or browsers.

Terry Myerson, head of Windows and devices at Microsoft, was the first to step on stage and talk Windows 10, explaining that the new operating system is already running on 110 million PCs across the world.

Partly responsible for this impressive growth is the company's struggle to bring more developers on-board, with Facebook one of the big names that will soon code for Windows.

During Myerson's keynote, Microsoft was showing quotes from the some important tech figures, including Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's CEO who confirmed the interest in Windows 10 apps.

“Facebook is all in on Windows 10. We're exciting to build Universal Windows Apps for Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram.”

To arrive in the coming months

Unfortunately, neither Microsoft nor Mark Zuckerberg provided release time details for the new apps, but it turns out that they should be here by the end of the month.

Seeing Facebook finally launching apps for Windows 10 is clearly good news for both Microsoft and its users, but it's also no secret that some important programs are still missing from the store right now, including those developed by Google.

Some rumors that reached the web recently claimed Google might announce support for Windows 10 at Microsoft's event, but that didn't happen, so such a deal is still uncertain right now.

Hopefully, the growth the Windows 10 is experiencing these days would convince more companies to bring their apps on PCs and smartphones running Microsoft's operating system (yes, we're talking about you Snapchat!), but time will tell if the new strategy is better than the one for Windows 8 (which pretty much failed, by the way).
