The Manjaro Linux Team has announced earlier that the next major version of the Octopi GUI (Graphical User Interface) package manager software, version 0.8, is around the corner and a release is imminent.

Octopi 0.8 will include all sorts of attractive and useful new features, such as the initial port to Qt5, the addition of a progress bar to the "Files" tab displaying the progress of building the list of files, as well as the implementation of the Ctrl+F keyboard shortcut for searching in the "Information" tab.

The Foreign repo tool name is now displayed in the yellow notifier icon tooltip, the packages listed in the "Depends On" field of the "Information" tab are now displayed as clicked anchors, and detailed information about the Pacman package manager is now displayed on the "Help/About" dialog.

Moreover, the status bar message has been updated to display the number of selected packages in a human readable way, and it is now possible to view the information about the outdated packages printed in the "Output" tab when you hover your mouse over them. Please note that the octopi-notifier component has not yet been ported to Qt5.

Translations are needed

The development team of the Octopi open-source graphical package manager needs your help with translations. So if you have the time and you're interested in translating the application in as many languages as possible, you are more than welcome to join the team and get started immediately, because Octopi 0.8 is about to be released.

"Due this changes also some of the strings got changed or new got added. Now we need your help to finalize those. As we can’t speak as many languages as we want to - you - the community comes in. Please join the translation project and transform Octopi to be fully translated into your native tongue," reads the announcement.
