After the release of the Manjaro Linux 15.09 computer operating system with its official editions, including Xfce, KDE, and Net Install, it is time to take a closer look at the community flavors of the Arch Linux-based distro.

Today we have the pleasure of informing you that Manjaro Linux i3 15.09 (Bellatrix) has been released, and besides all the great new features from the upstream Manjaro Linux 15.09 operating system, such as Linux kernel 4.1 LTS, improved Pamac graphical package manager, which replaces Octopi, and the latest Calamares graphical installer, the distribution has some noteworthy user-visible and under-the-hood changes, as well as many updated components.

Among the most interesting new features implemented in Manjaro Linux i3 15.09, we can mention enhanced compositing, which now includes shadows and preconfigured fading (disabled by default), a set of gorgeous new wallpapers, notification support for both horizontal and vertical tiling, support for some iPhone, iPad, and Samsung phones, the addition of more bash-aliases (access them by using < Shift >+< mod >+h), and an updated Manjaro Welcome dialog.

OpenRC support has been greatly improved

In addition to the changes mentioned above, Manjaro Linux i3 15.09 comes with improved support for the OpenRC init system, there are multiple fixes for various core components, including CUPS, Dunst, HexChat, NetworkManager, and xfce4-power-manager, Conky has been updated to version 20150918-1 with swap-display, and the dmenu-manjaro tool has been updated to version 4.5-8 with a separate configuration file and configurable hight.

Last but not least, the i3status-manjaro utility has been updated to version 2.9-4 with preconfigured display of multiple partitions disk space. Users are being informed that they need to set the time and date in the OpenRC flavor of the distribution using the timeset utility, or, as an alternative, they can create a symlink to the timezone of your choice, at least until the Manjaro Settings Manager app gains support for OpenRC.
