Oberon, the maintainer of the Manjaro-i3 community flavor of the Arch Linux-based operating system, has announced the availability of the Release Candidate (RC) build of Manjaro Linux 16.06 i3 Edition.

While currently based on the stable branch of the Manjaro Linux distribution, the Release Candidate of Manjaro Linux 16.06 i3 Community Edition is powered by the long-term supported Linux 4.4.9 kernel and built around the i3 4.12 window manager that's packed with sticky and gaps windows, both of which are optional.

The developer has managed to implement the Urxvt daemon into the upcoming distribution, which will be released in the coming weeks as part of the major Manjaro Linux 16.06 "Daniella" operating system, to provide an optimal terminal performance for those who love the i3 window manager.

Highly tweaked i3 environment with numerous apps

As expected, the i3 environment has been highly tweaked by the maintainer of the Manjaro Linux i3 Community Edition OS, offering users the latest dmenu-manjaro packed with many goodies, such as terminal and recency awareness, as well as mouse interactivity and a separate .dmenurc configuration file.

Tools like i3status-manjaro, a pre-configured i3-scrot screenshot utility, i3lock lock screen tool featuring the LightDM GTK Greeter and blurscreen, and command-line tools like Bmenu, ncdu, Ranger, speedtest-cli, Pacli, dfc, and Moc are also included by default in Manjaro Linux i3 16.06 RC Community Edition.

Moreover, the upstream Manjaro Welcome, Manjaro Settings Manager, and Manjaro Printer utilities have been included, along with the Calamares, Thus, and CLI installers, PCManFM file manager, Mousepad and nano text editors, Palemoon web browser, VLC Media Player, Clipit clipboard manager, and NetworkManager.

The standalone Compton composite manager is included for compositing support, and the Vertex-Maia desktop theme and Breeze-Maia icon set are present as well. Nitrogen wallpaper changer and HexChat IRC client have been installed by default, and the Yaourt package manager will give users direct access to the AUR repository.

Last but not least, Manjaro Linux 16.06 RC i3 Community Edition ships with the GIMP image editor and GPicView image viewer, the LxAppearance utility from the LXDE desktop environment to set up i3's look and feel, Simple Scan scanning and printing tool, as well as the Power Manager and Volumeicon utilities.
