The major update breaks most of the GTK+ themes

The Manjaro development team announced today the availability of the seventeenth update for the Manjaro Linux 15.12 (Capella) operating systems, bringing users the latest software updates and security fixes.

Among many goodies, today's update pack finally brings the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment to users of the Manjaro Linux 15.12 operating system, but with a warning because most of the GTK+ themes you might have installed won't work anymore with the latest build of the GTK+ 3.20 and GNOME 3.20 software.

Therefore, users are urged to switch to the default Adwaita theme for now, or at least until the Manjaro development team finishes work on the new Adwaita-Manjaro and Vertex-Manjaro themes. In the near future, the Vertex-Manjaro theme will become the default for most of the officially supported Manjaro Linux editions.

"With this we updated Gnome and GTK to 3.20. This will break most of the themes and will be fixed as soon as we had time to port them," reads the announcement. "It is recommended to use Adwaita or any theme which is already compatible with the new CSS style of Gnome. Most of the work is now going into Adwaita-Manjaro and Vertex-Manjaro. Vertex will become our default theme for most of our editions."

KDE Plasma 5.6.3 and KDE Applications 16.04 are now available

As mentioned before, there are many other goodies packed in the new Manjaro 15.12 update besides the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment, such as the KDE Plasma 5.6.3 desktop environment for KDE fans, along with the KDE Applications 16.04 software suite and KDE Frameworks 5.21.0 collection of add-on libraries for Qt5, the latest update of the Java JDK 8, as well as LibreOffice 5.1.2.

Among other updated software packages, we can mention Python, Haskell, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Calligra, and most of the supported kernels, including Linux 3.10.101 LTS, Linux 3.12.58 LTS, Linux 3.13.11.39 [EOL], Linux 3.14.66 LTS, Linux 3.16.7.27 [EOL], Linux 3.18.32 LTS, Linux 3.19.8.19, Linux 4.1.23 LTS, Linux 4.2.8.8, Linux 4.4.8 LTS, Linux 4.5.2, and Linux 4.6 Release Candidate 4.

Lastly, work continues on the Vulkan support, and the lib32 repository saw multiple updates since the last maintenance release. As usual, the Manjaro Linux 15.12 (Capella) software repos have been synchronized with upstream, bringing all the critical security patches and software updates from the Arch Linux operating system as of April 26, 2016. All users are urged to update their systems as soon as possible!
