The Manjaro community has just announced that a second iteration of the GNOME Edition is out, bringing some of the updates that have recently been made to this particular version.

Manjaro GNOME is a community-developed flavor of the famous Manjaro system, and it has recently been updated. The developers took all the packages and improvements that landed and re-spinned the Live CD of the distribution so that users get all the cool stuff. From what the developers have told us so far, it's a pretty hefty update, and it's a good idea that they also regenerated the ISO. Of course, the users who already have Manjaro GNOME installed only need to upgrade their systems and nothing more.

Manjaro is a Linux distribution based on Arch Linux, and it's entirely compatible with its repositories. The main difference is that Manjaro doesn't follow a rolling release model and prefers to make big changes in bulk, with major update packs that have been tested prior to their release. It ensures that significant problems won't slip through the cracks, which is always a good thing.

Manjaro GNOME 15.09 R2 is a big update

Users will notice that the new version of Manjaro GNOME is actually a pretty big update. It packs a lot of new packages, and it's easy to see why the developers have chosen to release a new version of the operating systems with an R2 attached to it.

"The Manjaro community is proud to present another update to the Gnome Edition installation media. This release keeps to the style of the 15.09 release being that it is highly vanilla, but of course is up-to-date at the time of build and includes the latest Manjaro back-end infrastructure. Note this means a very vanilla Gnome configuration, it doesn’t mean 'minimal,' the full set of Gnome software and other apps are provided out-of-the-box," reads the official announcement.

The new packages that have made their way into this release include GNOME 3.18.1, Linux kernel 4.1.11 LTS, systemd 227, Xorg-server 1.17.2+fixes, Mesa 11.0.4, and Firefox 41.0.2. You can download Manjaro GNOME 15.09 R2 from Softpedia and give it a spin.
