A new community-built Manjaro flavor is out

A new Manjaro Cinnamon 15.12 stable version has been released and is now ready for download, developers have announced.

The Manjaro community is a very active one, and they have a ton of flavors going, covering pretty much all of the window managers and desktop environments available right now that are still being maintained. It's a huge undertaking, but it's a task that seems to be gladly handled by the Manjaro fans.

It's not really all that surprising that Manjaro can cover such a huge array of flavor since it's an operating system based on Arch Linux, which is already doing pretty much the same thing, but in a less user-friendly manner. Manjaro is fully compatible with the Arch Linux repositories, so there is still a powerful link between them.

The latest Cinnamon desktop

As it was to be expected, Manjaro Cinnamon 15.12 incorporates the latest version of the desktop, 2.8, which was released a while back.

"After some developing a month and testing the upcoming ISO build’s, stable Cinnamon ISO is there. Cinnamon 2.8 contains a lot improvement to the cinnamon build. Further Team Manjaro & co improved Calamares and fixed some bugs to make it ready for this installation. Manjaro-tools get improved. And many more!" developers wrote in the announcement.

The new desktop comes with improved applets, window management, a refined backend, a number of Nemo (file manager) changes, and a lot more.

Here are some of the default packages that have been included in the Manjaro Cinnamon 15.12: Cinnamon 2.8.6, Firefox 43.0.1, Gedit 3.18.2, Gparted 0.24.0, LibreOffice 4.4.7, Linux kernel 4.1.15, systemd 228, and VLC 2.2.1. These are just a few of the most important packages, but there are a lot more.

You can download Manjaro Cinnamon Edition 15.12 right now from Softpedia and give it a go. It works like a charm in a virtual environment if you want to test it like that first.
