He set his own car and a gas pump on fire

There are plenty of people in this world who are absolutely and incurably terrified of spiders. Come to think of it, can we really blame them? Spiders are kind of freaky, what with their many legs sticking out of their body and their beady little eyes.

All the same, there is no excuse for not knowing better than not try to set a spider ablaze while anywhere near a gas station. And yet, this is precisely what happened in Detroit, Michigan, just the other day. The incident was caught on surveillance camera and the video, available below, is now making the rounds.

The man, whose identity remains a mystery, was minding his own business pumping fuel in his car when a spider appeared out of nowhere. Terrified, the man pulled out his lighter and tried to set it on fire. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned.

A major blaze happened

Gas and open flames aren't exactly the best of friends. So, the moment the man ignited his lighter, a major fire erupted. His car burned and so did the gas pump he was using. This hasn't been confirmed yet, but it's safe to assume the spider burned too.

Luckily, the man managed to run to safety. Shortly after, he returned with a fire extinguisher and managed to put out the blaze. It was a close call, but the flames didn't spread to any other gas pumps and so the station remained standing.

Huffington Post tells us that, apart from the spider - which, again, is so far an unconfirmed victim - nobody was injured in the blaze. Admittedly, the man's ride will probably need a whole lot of repairing, but at least he got away and took cover in time.

Most importantly, he most definitely proved a point. After this incident, it's doubtful any spider will ever again dare come anywhere near him.
