He's keeping the animal's carcass in a freezer

Philip Oliviera of Rockdale, Texas, is convinced an animal carcass he found on his property in late May and that he's since kept safe in a freezer belongs to a chupacabra. Or at least that's what he's telling anybody willing to listen to his story.

For those not familiar with mythical, legendary beasts whose existence is yet to be proven by science, chupacabras are weird predatory animals that supposedly populate the Americas and that only come out at night to kill livestock - especially goats - and drink their blood.

Phillip Oliviera's alleged chupacabra does look bizarre

Even skeptics have to admit that the creature Phillip Oliviera found lifeless on his property looks nothing like the animals people in this part of the US are used to stumbling upon. Check out the photo below to see for yourself. Be warned though, it's not for the faint of heart.

In an interview, the man described the dead animal as being almost completely bold with a skin similar in texture to that of an elephant. Although somewhat similar to a dog or maybe a raccoon, it could only be a chupacabra, the man added.

“Having studied biology and spent a lot of time camping and hunting and fishing and being out in the wilderness, I've seen what I thought was everything. But this thing is like nothing I've ever seen,” Phillip Oliviera explained in a statement.

The reason Phillip Oliviera put the carcass in a freezer for safekeeping is that he expects scientists to come knocking at his door any day now to collect DNA samples and carry out a full investigation and determine which species it belongs to. The man plans to run some DNA tests himself, just to be sure.

Wildlife experts seriously doubt the animal is a chupacabra

Huffington Post tells us that, although Philip Oliviera seems convinced that he is in possession of a chupacabra carcass, wildlife experts are having trouble believing that such a legendary creature has finally been found, albeit lying lifeless on the ground.

Rather, specialists are more inclined to think that the odd-looking carcass belongs either to a coyote or to a raccoon made bald and eventually killed by mange.

As for why Phillip Oliviera waited until late last week to announce his find to the world despite having found the carcass back in May, that's an even bigger mystery than the animal's true identity.
