It only works on the home and lock screens, obviously

It feels like it’s the “bring back the Windows Start menu” season again. Back in 2012 when Microsoft rolled out Windows 8 without a Start button and a Start menu, there were plenty of app developers that focused all their efforts on third-party apps to bring back these features in the operating system and, needless to say, most of them enjoyed quite an immense success.

A similar thing is happening these days with the iPhone X. The notch that the device comes with at the top of the screen proves to be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of feature, with some not at all bothered by this little extra on their display, while others are basically ready to give up on their devices just because of it.

It was just a matter of time until devs started looking into software workarounds to make the notch less striking, and after Notcho, here comes another tool with a more intuitive name.

Enter Notch Remover

Notch Remover is a very simple app that does the same thing as Notcho and simply removes the notch from the lock screen and the home screen. It does this by modifying your wallpaper and adding a black bar at the top of the screen, basically creating a look that reminds a lot of the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Of course, Notch Remover can’t do anything about the apps running on the iPhone X, but there’s no problem with that because there are lots of apps out there haven’t been updated for the new iPhone model.

So instead of the actual interface, what you get is a black bar that almost hides the notch completely, though it’s obviously just a matter of time until all devs release updates to meet iPhone X UI requirements.

In the meantime, expect more notch removing apps to make it to the Apple Store, though most of them will do pretty much the same thing with no extra features given the iOS limitations.
