OTA-9.5 to enter final freeze on January 29, 2016

We have just been informed by Łukasz Zemczak of Canonical about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers in preparation for the forthcoming OTA-9.5 hotfix update for Ubuntu Phones devices.

According to Mr. Zemczak, the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9.5 update is getting closer to its final freeze, which should take place tomorrow, January 29, 2016. The team, however, admits that the schedule is quite tight for this hotfix, and they will have to re-spin the RC (Release Candidate) images before the final release on February 10.

They are also considering pulling in all the bugfixes from the rc-proposed channel, which is now dedicated exclusively to the development of the next major OTA update, the OTA-10. However, pulling in the fixes is a smart move, and will most likely be very welcomed by the community.

"We're getting close to our OTA-9.5 final freeze date. We can already sense that not everything will be able to land before the freeze, so the image we'll be spinning during the weekend will most probably not be our final candidate," says Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations.

Big Unity 8 and Mir 0.19 updates coming soon

Keeping the good news running, we've also been informed by Mr. Zemczak that today the Ubuntu Touch devs have managed to land a bunch of new updates, which include numerous low-level stack components, such as media-hub, bluetooth-touch, android-headers, gst-plugins-bad1.0, libinput, as well as libhybris.

Furthermore, a massive Mir 0.19 display server update is now in the hands of the Ubuntu QA team, and once the testing is over, it will land in the stable channels, along with a big Unity 8 update. Tomorrow we should have more details about what exactly landed for the OTA-9.5 hotfix update, which will be effectively in feature freeze.
