George Miller took his time to bring back Mad Max to the big screen, but when he did, he also delivered the biggest and most spectacular action movie of the year, “Mad Max: Fury Road.” He’s now working on sequels for it, in the plural.

According to a new interview cited by Esquire magazine, he’s determined to surprise fans with the next outing for Max. There will be 2 of them, and while he is not at liberty to discuss the details of the plot, he will say this: the second one will be scaled-down in terms of budget, effects and stunts.

It will also have less of Furiosa, if at all. Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron, was the big surprise of “Fury Road,” but she won’t be turned into a franchise regular. However, don’t lose hope yet of seeing her again.

“I'm not sure, is the answer,” Miller says. “She's not in the Mad Max [sequel] story, but in one of the stories there's an interaction between [Max and Furiosa]. I can't really say more than that because it's still in progress.”

As of now, only Tom Hardy is signed to 2 more movies, whose fate was entirely dependent on how “Fury Road” fared at the box office. Charlize’s contract was for 1 picture only.

The sequel was rumored to be called “Mad Max: The Wasteland,” but Miller says that this was just a working title, so it’s not the final choice.
