Concept imagines the next version of macOS

While Apple has pledged to spend more time optimizing and refining the performance of its operating systems, it’s no secret that customers are always expecting for more, and new features mixed with a fresh design are always on the wish list of most users.

A macOS 11 concept published on Behance by designer Alvaro Pabesio envisions a complete makeover of Apple’s desktop operating system, most likely at a level that the Cupertino-based firm would never commit to as part of a typical version update.

In addition to the redesigned menu and status bars, the concept imagines a Control Center makeover with quick toggles and dynamic settings, with the latter showing up only when certain features are needed. For instance, when listening to music, the Control Center could display playback controls, along with a volume slider.

Dark mode in macOS? Hopefully, yes

The designer also details how universal apps could be integrated into macOS, allowing iOS app on desktop systems as well. Siri, which will be proactive, will get new features and will be able to reply with Animoji, translate in certain languages, and suggest more relevant content, including actions and settings.

The notification center also received an overhaul with a Today view, add event button, traffic and weather data, redesigned widgets similar to those on iOS, and grouped notifications.

One of the most exciting updates could be the addition of a dark mode on the desktop, something that Apple users have been drooling about for many years, not only on the PC, but also on iPhones.

And of course, apps would could also be redesigned, with Finder, Music, and Messages obviously at the top of the list.

Needless to say, this concept certainly looks interesting and to be honest, Apple would really do itself a favor to check out all these ideas, especially given all the criticism regarding its software lately. It remains to be seen how much of this becomes part of future macOS releases, with more official news in this regard expected at this year’s WWDC in the summer.
