Today, Apple will launch the macOS 10.13 High Sierra operating system for Macs, a release that adds numerous improvements and new features to your beloved computer, increasing the overall performance, security, and compatibility.

Talking about compatibility, if you have an older Mac, you should check out the list below to find out if you can update it to macOS High Sierra 10.13 or not. Basically, if you're running macOS 10.12 Sierra right now, you can rest assured that your Mac will also support macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

In any case, before attempting to install the macOS 10.13 High Sierra operating system today, you should first check if your Mac is supported. Apple says that all Macs introduced in mid-2010 or later are compatible with High Sierra, as well as all MacBook and iMac computers released in late 2009.

Here's how to check if your Mac is supported

It's very easy to check the model of your Mac, just click the Apple logo on the far left side of the top panel and then click on "About This Mac." In the About This Mac window, you'll see your Mac model and when it was built (e.g. MacBook Air (13-inch 2017 or MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012).

If your Mac is supported, it's a good idea to create a backup using Time Machine, so that you have a copy of your most important files in case the upgrade process doesn't go well, though that shouldn't be the case. Apple also says that you should have your Apple ID's credentials at hand before updating to macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

If your Mac is compatible with macOS 10.13 High Sierra, you should know you'll also benefit of all of its awesome features, including the brand-new Apple File System (APFS), a revamped Photos app with built-in editing features, a faster and smarter Safari web browser, Metal 2 for next-gen gaming and VR support, and much more.
