Lync will soon become Skype for Business, but until the change occurs, Microsoft needs to deliver some updates that will bring Skype's look over Lync's core features.

Microsoft announced Lync for Windows Phone, Android and iOS will become Skype for Business, but the company did not confirm when exactly that will happen.

The good news is the latest Lync update brings the application on step closer to Skype for Business integration. The update, as noted by MicrosoftInsider, adds the much-needed fluidity of the UI (user interface).

In addition, the transitions between different menus are smoother than ever. In fact, the overall performance of the application has been improved so much that you would think that Lync for Windows Phone has been rebuilt from scratch.

Some visual changes have been added too, such as some menus that have changed appearance in order to keep the same design and layout that will be delivered with the final version of Skype for Business.

According to Microsoft, “Lync will become Skype for Business. We've kept all the good stuff and added the fresh look and feel of Skype.”

New look, emoticons, more improvements

The application now features a new look, emoticons, as well as other improvements. Keep in mind that if your organization uses Skype Business Server 2015, then you will be able to communicate with your Skype contacts with instant messaging, audio calls and video calls.

Skype for Business will work on all devices running Windows Phone 8.1 or later, which means smartphones powered by earlier versions of the operating system will continue to use Lync 2013.

It's also worth mentioning that after upgrading to Skype for Business, the contacts and meetings will not be lost and will continue to function as they did with Lync.

The changes mentioned in this article are only available for Windows Phone version of Lync, but Android and iOS might receive the new update soon as well.

You can now download Lync 2013 for Windows Phone for free via Windows Phone Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 8 and up.
